  • Factor analysis of interceptor capture probability

    The capture probability of interceptors has been deeply studied.Firstly,the definition of capture probability is analyzed.It is transformed into calculating the probability that the relative position vector between the target and the interceptor locates in a certain cone.The relative position vector and associated covariance matrix are projected in line-of-sight coordinates,and the 3-dimensional integral of a probability function in a cone is calculated to obtain the capture probability.The integral equation is a complicated expression of probability,and it is simplified to an explicit approximate expression according to some assumptions based on the characteristics of the engineering problems.The approximation precision is analyzed by comparative simulation difference,which indicates that approximate assumptions are reasonable.Utilizing the explicit expression,the characteristics of capture probability are analyzed respectively with the factors,such as the distance between the interceptor and the target,the precision of relative position vector,the maximum capture distance and the maximum field angle of interceptor seeker....

  • Deep-water Earliest Oligocene Glacial Maximum (EOGM) in South Atlantic

    The most prominent cooling event of the Earth surface during Cenozoic in the long-term transition from a non-glaciated planet, or "green-house world", to a polar, glaciated planet, or "ice-house world", is the Earliest Oligocene Glacial Maximum (EOGM) above the Eocene/Oligocene boundary at about 33.7 Ma. Planktonic and benthic foraminiferal oxygen and carbon isotopes, carbonate content, and coarse fraction, along with high-resolution color reflectance and magnetic susceptibility records during 35-30 Ma, from deep-water Sites 1262 and 1265, Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) Leg 208 in South Atlantic, reveal the global cooling event occurring in both surface and deep oceans. The results show that the earliest Oligocene δ18O values during 33.5-33.1 Ma represent the magnitude of continental ice sheets on east Antarctica and indicate the large decrease in both surface and deep water temperatures of worldwide oceans. The δ13C records show the large excursion during the period of EOGM event and indicate some types of shift in global carbon reservoir, probably demonstrating the sudden increase in organic carbon burial rates and the changes in the distribution and timing of production. At the same time, lithologic composition, carbonate content, color reflectance, and coarse fraction brought about significant changes close to the Eocene/Oligocene boundary, reflecting the abrupt deepening in the carbonate compensation depth (CCD). Changes in carbonate content were revealed from the color reflectance identify periodicities associated with eccentricity of the Earth's orbit (100 and 400 ka), further indicating orbitally forced global climate variations in the Early Oligocene....

  • Summer water temperature structures and their interannual variation in the upper Canada Basin

    Conductivity,temperature and depth (CTD) data from 1993-2010 are used to study water temperature in the upper Canada Basin.There are four kinds of water temperature structures:The remains of the winter convective mixed layer,the near-surface temperature maximum (NSTM),the wind-driven mixed layer,and the advected water under sea ice.The NSTM mainly appears within the conductive mixed layer that forms in winter.Solar heating and surface cooling are two basic factors in the formation of the NSTM.The NSTM can also appear in undisturbed open water,as long as there is surface cooling.Water in open water areas may advect beneath the sea ice.The overlying sea ice cools the surface of the advected water,and a temperature maximum could appear similar to the NSTM.The NSTM mostly occurred at depths 10-30 m because of its deepening and strengthening during summer,with highest frequency at 20 m.Two clear stages of interannual variation are identified.Before 2003,most NSTMs were observed in marginal ice zones and open waters,so temperature maxima were usually warmer than 0℃.After 2004,most NSTMs occurred in ice-covered areas,with much colder temperature maxima.Average depths of the temperature maxima in most years were about 20 m,except for about 16 m in 2007,which was related to the extreme minimum of ice cover.Average temperatures were around -0.8℃ to -1.1℃,but increased to around -0.5℃ in 2004,2007 and 2009,corresponding to reduced sea ice.As a no-ice summer in the Arctic is expected,the NSTM will be warmer with sea ice decline.Most energy absorbed by seawater has been transported to sea ice and the atmosphere.The heat near the NSTM is only the remains of total absorption,and the energy stored in the NSTM is not considerable.However,the NSTM is an important sign of the increasing absorption of solar energy in seawater....

  • Rock parameters inversion for estimating the maximum heights of two failure zones in overburden stra

    In order to enter effective parameters of rock mass in a numerical model, the relationships between mechanical parameters of rock and rock mass were obtained by an inversion method and an orthogonal test, given our measurements of the maximum heights of two failure zones in the Longdong coal mine.Using the maximum heights of the caving zone and the water-conducting fractured zone as test indices the modulus of elasticity, the Poisson ratio, cohesion and tension strength as test factors and different values of reduction enhancement factors as test levels, an orthogonal test was designed to obtain an optimum simulation scheme. From the analysis of different values of reduction enhancement factors which affect the test indices, an optimum factor combination for modification of parameters could be inferred. By using modified parameters in our numerical simulation, the maximum heights oftbe caving zone and the water-conducting fractured zone in the extensive Xiyi area were determined as 15.06 m and 36.92 m. These values were almost the same as those obtained by similar material simulation (8.5 m and 37.0 m) and empirical prediction (8.4 m and 34.4 m).   • Law of surface movement for multi-coal seam strip mining ?

    It is an important part of green mining to control the disasters of coal mining which have caused irreversible damages to buildings and ecological environment. Strip mining is one of the efficient measures to control surface subsidence and mining damage. However, the research on the laws of the surface subsidence are still deficient in multi-coal seam strip mining at present. Based on the Fast Lagrangian Analysis of Continua (short for FLAC3D) numerical simulation software, the laws of the surface subsidence and horizontal movement were systematically studied for different depths, different mining widths, different distances between seams, different mining thickness, different parameters between seams and the special relations of the upper pillar and the lower pillar in the vertical direction in multi-seam strip mining. The function relation between the maximum subsidence and the maximum horizontal movement with the depth, the mining width, the seam distance, mining thickness, different parameters between seams and the partial offset are summarized respectively. Finally the formula integrating the surface maximum subsidence value and the maximum horizontal movement was deduced. The results can be used for reference theory and measure in forecasting the surface displacement in multi-coal seam strip mining....
