英语中的连词是一种虚词，它可连接词与词或句与句，起连接的作用，但不承担句子成分。连词分从属连词和并列连词，从属连词引导从句，而并列连词连接两个互不依从的词、短语或分句。
and & or
and和or是用得最多的并列连词，可以连接： 1. 两个名词、形容词，以及两个并列的动词等。如： Would you like beef or fish? The little girl is lovely and helpful. They were singing and dancing all night. 2. 两个并列的短语。如： The man entered his house and took off his coat. 3. 两个并列的分句。如： I said it and I meant it. 注意： or连接分句还可表示“否则”。如： Drive slowly, or you may have an accident.
but
but表示意思的转折。如： My cousin passed the exam, but I didn’t. It is sunny but cold today. We are not enemies, but friends.
so
so表示结果，意为“因此，所以”。如： The rain began to fall, so we went home. 注意：so和because不能连用。如： He was ill, so he didn’t go to school. 相当于 He didn’t go to school, because he was ill.
