Energy and transport reform is entering the decisive phase. Exploring diversified battery systems has become a consensus in the industry. In the new energy field that is a long runway for sustainable profitable growth, sodium-ion batteries are becoming an important technical route after lithium-ion batteries.
Full electrification and diversified demand of electric batteries. The electric penetration rate is moving forward rapidly and multiple scenarios have put forward diversified demand for batteries. Sodium-ion batteries have, by virtue of advantages like low temperature, magnification and cost etc., obtained the opportunities of market application in mini cars, two-wheelers, start power, PHEV and commercial vehicles etc., and will be gradually put into service.
Energy storage is heading towards global, all-industry and whole-household storage. Sodium-ion batteries have significant differentiation advantages in targeted scenarios such as data center UPS, power energy storage and household storage etc., and are entering the early test verification stage. In the next few years, large-scale application will be realized step by step.
Sodium-ion batteries have broad application market from a global perspective. “Going global” has become the main tune of China’s new energy industry in 2024. Facing the global market, sodium-ion batteries also have wide application space and many market opportunities in the overseas markets. In the fields of electrification and energy storage in countries and regions of the Belt and Road Initiative in Southeast Asia, South Asia and Africa etc., sodium-ion batteries will give play to its extreme cost performance of products and advantages of China’s battery industry chain, and the overseas markets will become an important stronghold for industrialization of sodium-ion batteries.
Industrialization of sodium-ion batteries will speed up the construction of industrial chain ecology. Various companies engaged in the fields of key materials for sodium-ion batteries like cathode, anode, electrolyte, separator and current collector are speeding up their layout, while equipment enterprises also allocate for sodium-ion batteries actively. To achieve the large-scale application of sodium-ion batteries, a mature industrial ecology should be formed as soon as possible.
