研究诚信办公室(ORI)发现 William Armstead 在美国公共卫生服务(PHS)基金支持的研究中从事研究不端行为。

具体来说,ORI发现 William Armstead 在5篇已发表的论文,1篇未发表的手稿,1篇综述文章,3张海报,3份PHS基金的拨款申请以及4份NIH拨款进展报告中伪造和/或捏造51个数据、方法、数据、结果和结论 ,报告了各种血管活性药物对不同年龄和性别仔猪创伤性脑损伤后神经系统反应的影响,进而从事学术不端行为。

William Armstead 同意从2023年6月19日开 在7年内禁止获得美国联邦资金资助,以及担任包括NIH同行评审委员会在内的公共卫生服务部门的顾问。

截至到2023年7月5日, William Armstead被撤回了7篇文章, 主要原因是研究结果、陈述和结论出现了实质性问题。

根据宾夕法尼亚大学(UPENN)进行的一项调查报告和研究诚信办公室(ORI)在其监督审查中进行的额外分析,ORI发现William M. Armstead博士(被调查对象),他是宾夕法尼亚大学佩雷尔曼医学院麻醉和重症监护系麻醉和重症监护研究副教授,在美国公共卫生服务(PHS)基金支持的研究中从事研究不端行为。

  • reported falsified data, results, and conclusions highlighting the roles that age and gender have in the treatment of traumatic brain injury from  Ped Crit Care Med  2016,  J Neurotrauma  2016,  J Neurotrauma  2017,  Brain Res.  2017, and  Pediatr Res.  2017 in  Exp. Neuro  2019
  • reported falsified results from  Ped Crit Care Med.  2016,  J Neurotrauma  2016,  J Neurotrauma  2017, and  Brain Res.  2017 and in the SNACC 2016 poster, Experimental Biology 2016 poster, Neurotrauma 2016 poster in progress reports R01 NS090998-02, -03, -04, and -05
  • reported falsified results of the vasoactive agents NE, EPI, PHE, and DA on autoregulation and hippocampal neuronal necrosis in piglets of different ages and genders after a stroke or traumatic brain injury in Figures 4A, 4B, 5A, 5B, 6A, and 6B of R35 NS116805-01 and R01 NS121149-01, Figures 3A, 3B, 3G, and 3H of R01 HL139506-01, and the Research Strategy section of R35 NS116805-01

Respondent will exclude himself voluntarily for a period of seven (7) years beginning on June 19, 2023 (the “Exclusion Period”), from any contracting or subcontracting with any agency of the United States Government and from eligibility for or involvement in nonprocurement or procurement transactions referred to as “covered transactions” in 2 C.F.R. Parts 180 and 376 (collectively the “Debarment Regulations”).
  1. During the Exclusion Period, Respondent will exclude himself voluntarily from serving in any advisory or consultant capacity to PHS including, but not limited to, service on any PHS advisory committee, board, and/or peer review committee.
