Multiple Ph.D. Candidate and Postdoctoral Associate Positions Available in Aerosol and Airborne Disease Diagnostics

The Aerosol Measurement and Control (AMC) Laboratory and Nano-Bio Laboratory at the University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) are looking for highly motivated postdoctoral associates and Ph.D. candidates to join our dynamic team. Our interdisciplinary research focuses on establishing functional aerosol transport in the human lung system, bioaerosol transport in the indoor environment, and nanotechnologies for airborne disease diagnostics. Recent efforts have led to innovative tools enabling rapid and simple digital diagnostic methods. Our work has received funding from both federal and state agencies (NSF, NIH, CDMRP, and CPRIT), as well as non-profit organizations (American Heart Association). Our labs work closely with active researchers at UT Dallas and other institutes, including UT Southwestern Medical Center, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Yale, UC Berkeley, Caltech, and Stanford. Our work has led to the formation of several biotech startup companies. Interested candidates can find more information on the Nano-Bio lab website (https://www.nanobrainlab.net/).

We have several open positions available in the interdisciplinary area of nanomaterials, aerosol transport, and rapid disease diagnostics. Among the opportunities in these research areas:

1. We are seeking a postdoctoral associate and multiple Ph.D. students with a strong interest and/or background in aerosol transport. The successful postdoc candidate will perform experiments and modeling using aerosol science and technologies. The candidate will work with graduate students and lead/assist with proposal preparation. For postdoc candidates, a bioaerosol-related background is preferred, but not required. B.S. and M.S. students from all engineering backgrounds are welcome to apply for our Ph.D positions. Students with a background in environmental, chemical, and mechanical engineering, particularly with thermal fluids knowledge, are encouraged to apply.

2. We are seeking a postdoctoral associate and multiple Ph.D. students with a strong interest and/or background in rapid airborne disease diagnostics. The successful candidate will perform in vitro diagnostics with nanomaterials and photonics. The project will be highly interdisciplinary and fast-paced, having multiple collaborating labs in optics, diagnostics, and nanomaterial synthesis. The candidate will work with other graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in the laboratory, publish results in journals, write project reports, and assist with proposal preparation. The project is supported by grant funding from the NIH and DOD. Successful postdoctoral applicants will have a Ph.D. in engineering, materials science, or microbiology. Ideal candidates should be able to work in a collaborative environment, lead projects, learn new skills, communicate effectively, and accommodate some local or domestic travel for collaborative studies if necessary. Successful Ph.D. students will have a background in engineering or biomedical sciences, and high self-motivation.
