Based on current literature,a solar photovoltaic-thermal system has been constructed and its real life performance has been tested.The system was designed to replace the existing 20W emergency lighting PV panel system.It is a 0.165 m2 surface solar photovoltaic-thermal convertor,in which a glass/film sandwiched PV converter(solar panel)was mounted on a water channel(basin)of 7 mm depth.The transparent film which covered the solar cells underneath was in direct contact with circulation water.Photovoliaic performance of the prototypewaft evaluated and the results were compared with its performance without heat removal.Obtained results are in agreement with previous theoretical modular studies and favor the applicability of the proposed unit in high temperature areas.An increased photovoltaic efficiency(20-28%)has been achieved,with the production of 30-45 1/day water heated from 20-25 ℃ to some 35 ℃.
