  • Preparation and Characterization of Nimodipine-loaded Methoxy Poly (ethylene glycol)-poly (lactic ac

    Amphiphilic diblock copolymers, methoxy poly (ethylene glycol)-poly(lactic acid) (MePEG-PLA), were synthesized from monomers of DL-lactide and methoxy poly (ethylene glycol) by a ring opening bulk polymerization in the presence of stannous octoate. Their chemical structure and physical properties were investigated using FTIR, NMR, GPC, and fluorescence spectroscopy. To estimate the feasibility as colloidal drug carrier, nimodipine (ND) was loaded into MePEG-PLA block copolymer nanoparticles by phaseseparation/dialysis method. The mean diameter and drug loading efficiency of ND-loaded MePEG-PLA copolymer nanoparticles depended on PLA/MePEG block composition of the copolymer and drug/polymer feed ratio in preparation. NMR study confirmed that nimodipine was entrapped into the hydrophobic inner core of MePEG-PLA copolymer nanoparticles and hydrophilic PEG chains were located on the surface of the drug-loaded polymer nanoparticles. In vitro release experiments exhibited the sustained release behavior of nimodipine from MePEG-PLA copolymer nanoparticles, without any burst effect....

  • Common model analysis and improvement of particle swarm optimizer

    Particle swarm optimizer (PSO), a new evolutionary computation algorithm, exhibits good performance for optimization problems, although PSO can not guarantee convergence of a global minimum, even a local minimum.However, there are some adjustable parameters and restrictive conditions which can affect performance of the algorithm.In this paper, the algorithm are analyzed as a time-varying dynamic system, and the sufficient conditions for asymptotic stability of acceleration factors, increment of acceleration factors and inertia weight are deduced. The value of the inertia weight is enhanced to (-1, 1). Based on the deduced principle of acceleration factors, a new adaptive PSO algorithmharmonious PSO (HPSO) is proposed. Furthermore it is proved that HPSO is a global search algorithm. In the experiments,HPSO are used to the model identification of a linear motor driving servo system. An Akaike information criteria based fitness function is designed and the algorithms can not only estimate the parameters, but also determine the order of the model simultaneously.     An equipment maintenance system is naturally a complex dynamical system. The effective maintenance management must be based on the knowledge of the system's intrinsic dynamics. And the structure of the maintenance system determines its behavior. This paper analyzes the basic structures and elements of a maintenance system for complex multi-components equipment. The maintenance system is considered as a dynamic system whose behavior is influenced by its structure's feedback and interaction, and the system's available resources. Building the dynamical model with Simulink, we show some results about the maintenance system's nonlinear dynamics, which are never given by stochastic process methods. The model can be used for understanding and determining maintenance system behavior, towards which operational adjustments of maintenance infrastructure, precise prediction of maintenance requirements and timely supply of maintenance resources can be made in a more informed way....

  • Comparative Analysis of PSO Algorithms for PID Controller Tuning

    The active magnetic bearing(AMB) suspends the rotating shaft and maintains it in levitated position by applying controlled electromagnetic forces on the rotor in radial and axial directions. Although the development of various control methods is rapid, PID control strategy is still the most widely used control strategy in many applications, including AMBs. In order to tune PID controller, a particle swarm optimization(PSO) method is applied. Therefore, a comparative analysis of particle swarm optimization(PSO) algorithms is carried out, where two PSO algorithms, namely (1) PSO with linearly decreasing inertia weight(LDW-PSO), and (2) PSO algorithm with constriction factor approach(CFA-PSO), are independently tested for different PID structures. The computer simulations are carried out with the aim of minimizing the objective function defined as the integral of time multiplied by the absolute value of error(ITAE). In order to validate the performance of the analyzed PSO algorithms, one-axis and two-axis radial rotor/active magnetic bearing systems are examined. The results show that PSO algorithms are effective and easily implemented methods, providing stable convergence and good computational efficiency of different PID structures for the rotor/AMB systems. Moreover, the PSO algorithms prove to be easily used for controller tuning in case of both SISO and MIMO system, which consider the system delay and the interference among the horizontal and vertical rotor axes....

  • Fine roots refilling process in an artificial gap in a Picea mongolica forest

    Picea mongolica is an endemic but endangered species in China. The spruce forest is only found in sandy forest-steppe ecotones. In this study, we examined the initial response of the quantity and refilling process of fine roots in an artificial canopy gap with a diameter of 36 m in a P. mongolica forest. Under the canopy, the fine root length densities of trees, shrubs and herbs were 2,622, 864 and 3,086 m·m-2, respectively. The fine root biomass of trees, shrubs and herbs were 148, 62 and 65 g·m-2, respectively.In the gap, the fine root length density of trees was 151 m·m-2. The mean fine root densities of shrubs and herbs in the gap were 756 and 2,568 m·m-2. The fine root biomass of trees, shrubs and herbs were 9, 52 and 47 g·m-2, respectively. Two growing seasons after the gap creation, hardly any fine tree roots were found in the middle of the gap. The living tree roots in the gap edge zone were mainly located within a 4.5 m distance from the standing trees. Indices developed to show the influence of trees on fine root length density clearly revealed the effect of the vicinity of living trees on fine root length density. The root densities of shrubs and herbs did not show a clear response to gap creation despite the increase of their foliage. Our results suggest that in P mongolica forests a gap disturbance creates a distinct tree root gap and that the gap edge trees do not extend their root systems rapidly into the formed root gap....

  • EXPRESSION AND ROLE OF PLASMINOGEN SYSTEM IN PROCESS OF RESTENOSIS

    Objective To study the expression and role of plasminogen system in the process of restenosis.Methods We established a double-injury model of atherosclerotic restenosis in rabbit iliac artery mimicking human arterial restenosis. The time course of tissue plaminogen activator (tPA), urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA), urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR) and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) was investigated by immunohistochemistry. The mRNA expression of uPA and uPAR were detected after vascular procedures by in situ hybridization. Results In uninjured arteries, the weak expression of tPA and PAI-1 was detected in intimal and endothelial cells. The expression of tPA, uPA, uPAR and PAI-1 was significantly induced after double-injury, but after double-injury 14d, the expression of tPA restore to preinjury levels. The expression of uPA and uPAR in intimal was higher than that of media and maintain high levels in intimal within 42d and 56d. Conclusion Whereas t-PA is primarily involved in clot dissolution and play a limited role in the process of restenosis, in plasminogen system, uPA and uPAR play a prominent role in the process of restenosis....
