    The guide-pieces, used in the process line of steel roiling, were the important components. The guidepieces, which were slide contacting with the rolled-piece, had a high temperature and high speed. The wear was very serious. The results from failure analysis showed that there were three failure forms in the guide-pieces: the first was the wear during heat friction, the second was the heat fatigue under the cycle of deep heating and deep cooling, and the third was the impact rupture.   • Study of front bumper process on the basis of hot stamping

    The fitting method is used for obtaining the constitutive relation of ultra-high strength steel in this pa-per. At the same time,the forming limit of material is researched under different deformation conditions. Through experiments,the paper obtains stress-strain curve under different deformation temperatures and strain rates. On the basis of experimental data,the constitutive relation model is established which can reflect the de-formation capacity of ultra-high strength steel during process of hot stamping. Combining with finite element simulation results of hot stamping by the commercial software AUTOFORM,transfer path of load and match-ing law of strength,the paper determines the design criteria and forming process requirements of parts manufac-tured by hot stamping.   • Structure change of 430 stainless steel in the heating process

    The microstructure analysis was employed for the ferritic stainless steel (SUS430) with the carbon content from 0.029wt% to 0.100wt% under the simulated heating process condition. The higher carbon sample (430H) contains the duplex phase micro-structure at the temperature of 1150℃; on the other hand, the lower carbon content sample (430L) does not touch two phase area even at the temperature of 1450℃ and has the single phase ferritic microstrucmre. The carbon content need be well controlled for the 430 ferritic stainless steel since it can significandy affect the heating process curve, and the heating process may not be done in the two phase area due to the uncontrolled carbon content. With the low carbon content and the proper soaking time, the grain size is not sensitive to the heating process temperature and the soaking time. In the present heat treatment experiments, the soaking time is about 10 rain, and the processing parameters can be chosen according to the requ'trernent of the gross energy, the efficiency and the continual forming....

  • Semisolid Slurry Preparation of Die Steel with High Chromium Content

    The semisolid slurry preparation of die steels Cr12 and Cr12MoV with high chromium content was studied. The results show that the semisolid slurry of both steels with solid of 40 %-60 % can be made by electromagnetic stirring method and is easy to be discharged from the bottom little hole of the stirring chamber. The sizes of the spherical primary austenite in the slurry of die steels Cr12 and Cr12MoV are 50-100 μm and 80-150 μm, respectively. The homogeneous temperature field and solute field for both steel melts are obtained. The strong temperature fluctuation in the melt with many fine primary austenite grains occurs and the remelting of the secondary arm roots at the same time is accelerated because of the electromagnetic stirring. These are the most important reasons for deposition of spherical primary austenite grains....

  • Effect of preferential dissolution on erosion-corrosion for chromium steel in alkali slurry

    An investigation was carried out concerning the effect of preferential dissolution on the erosion-corrosion for a chromium steel in 1mol/L NaOH. Preliminary tests using a potentiodynamic technique were performed in order to establish the presence of preferential dissolution in the alkali solution with and without the alumina particles at different rotation speeds. For purposes of quantifying the observed phenomena a potentiostatic mass loss method was also used. The results show that the active peaks occur at potential between +0.4 and +0.5V on the polarization curves, which indicates that there is a preferential dissolution for chromium steel under erosion-corrosion conditions and the ferrite phase acts as a sacrificial anode in favor of (Fe,Cr)7C3 phase. Addition of particles can promote the preferential dissolution at different rotation speeds. The combined effects of erosion-corrosion results in total mass loss rates to be greater than the sum effects of each process taken alone, thus showing a strong synergism between erosion and corrosion due to preferential dissolution....

    17-4PH stainless steel powders were prepared using a supersonic nozzle in a close-coupled gas atomization system.The characteristics of powder particles were carried out by means of a laser particle size analyzer,scanning electron microscopy (SEM),and the X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique.The results show that the mass median particle diameter is about 19.15 μm.Three main types of surface microstructures are observed in the powders:well-developed dendrite,cellular,and cellular dendrite structure.The XRD measurements show that,as the particle size decreases,the amount of fcc phase gradually decreases and that of bcc phase increases.The cooling rate is inversely related to the particle size,i.e.,it decreases with an increase in particle size....

  • Study of properties and mechanisms of backing weld of stainless steel piping with no backing gas

    This work investigates the proposed welding of stainless steels with no backing gas by using solid wire ER316L-Si and mixed gases (He+Ar+CO_2). The protection mechanism was also discussed from the view of arc physics and the alloy elements in the solid wire. The result shows that when the proportion of helium in the above-noted mixed gases excesses 45 percent, the mechanical properties and the intergranular corrosion tendency meet corresponding Chinese standards. Further, the alloy elements in the solid wire can react with oxygen during the period of high temperature boosted by helium arc; this result in the formation of a bed of thin slag, which can avoid the oxidation of the backing weld and eliminate the need of backing gas....

  • SUPERPLASTICITY OF A WATER-QUENCHED AND TEMPERED 40Cr STEEL

    The superplastic deformation characteristics, of commercial 40Cr (i.e., 5140) steel that was water-quenched only 1 times and subsequent high-temperature tempered, were investigated.The results showed that the 40Cr steel has a fine grain of 10-15μm at room temperature,and exhibits a tensile elongation of 304%, a true flow stress of 89.3MPa and a strain rate sensitivity m-value of 0.227 at the initial strain rate of 1.0×10-3s-1and at the temperature of 750℃. The final fracture is caused by the development of neck. The experimental result of elongation is in good agreement with the theoretically predicated value according to the analytical expression ef = (1/f)mexp(nv+mε)-1(where ef, m, f, nv and e is respectively elongation, average strain rate sensitivity, initial geometric defect, average strain hardening sensitivity at constant deformation velocity and average true strain). The fracture surface is intergraular, and superplastic deformation induces an equiaxed and grown grain. Decreasing strain rate increases tensile elongation and strain rate sensitivity m-value. The primary superplastic deformation mechanism is thought to be atom-diffusion-controlled grain boundary sliding....
