  • Comments on process of duplex coatings on aluminum alloys

    Despite the great achievements made in improvement of wear resistance properties of aluminum alloys,their applications in heavy surface load-bearing are limited. Single coating is insufficient to produce the desired combination of surface properties. These problems can be solved through the duplex coatings. The aim of the present study is to overview the research advances on processes of duplex coatings on aluminum alloys combined with micro plasma oxidation process and with other modern processes such as physical vapour deposition and plasma assisted chemical vapour deposition and also to evaluate the performance of micro plasma oxidation coatings in improving the load-bearing, friction and wear resistance properties of aluminum alloys in comparison with other coatings.   • RESEARCH OF MICRO ELECTRO DISCHARGE MACHININGEQUIPMENT AND PROCESS TECHNIQUES

    Micro electro discharge machining (micro EDM) is a feasible way to manufacture micro structures and has potential application in advanced industrial fields. For the realization of micro EDM, it is necessary to pay careful attention to its equipment design and the development of process techniques. The present status of research and development of micro EDM equipment and process techniques is overviewed. A micro electro discharge machine incorporated with an inchworm type of micro feed mechanism is introduced, and a micro electro discharge machine for drilling micro holes suitable to industrial use is also introduced. Some of the machining experiments carried out on the micro EDM prototypes are shown and the feasibility of the micro EDM technology to practical use is discussed....

  • The effect of methylbenzene/ethanol ratios on chemical composition of extractives from Eucalyptus gr

    Chemical components of methylbenzene/ethanol extractives of Eucalyptus grandis were identified by GC/MS and different methylbenzene/ethanol solutions (9/1,4/1,2/1,1/1,1/2) were used to describe their distinctions.The distributions of micro particles in each extractive were studied simultaneously.The results show that there were significant differences between the various extractives,although the extractives were essentially the same,i.e.,alcohols,alkanes,esters and acids.With the increase of ethanol composition in the solutions,the total amount of extractives increased; in solvent with higher amounts of ethanol,some acidic structures or acids,such as glutaric acid,could be seen.An investigation of micro particles indicated that the distribution of particle size of each sample did not change greatly between the solutions.A slight decrease in size was seen with the reduction in the amount of methyl-benzene....

  • EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION INTO HOT WATER SLOT JETS WITH NEGATIVELY BUOYANCY IN CROSS FLOW

    An experiment was conducted to examine the near-field behavior of negatively buoyant planar jets in flowing environment. Hot water jet was projected downwards at different angles from a slot into a uniform cross flow. Micro Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (Micro ADV) system is used to measure the velocity and turbulent fluxes of Reynolds stresses. The whole field temperatures were measured with fast response thermocouples. Pure jets experiments were made also to study the effect of buoyancy in negatively buoyant jets. It is found that the influenced area of hot jets is larger than which of pure jets when the jet angle is 90° and the influenced area of hot jets is smaller than which of pure jets when the jet angle is 45°. The difference is not obvious at 60° angle jets. This means that the rising of temperature has effect not only on negatively buoyancy, but also on the intensity of turbulence. The contrast of these two influences dominates the trend of jet flow....
