The reaction of n-C3H7OH+HBr=n-C3H7Br+H2O was used to experimentally study a coupled pervaporation (PV)-reaction distillation (RD) process. The results show that polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is a suitable membrane material for water removal. The typical separation properties of PVA polyacrylonitrile (PAN) composite membranes are a highest flux of 780 g/(m2*h) and a separation factor of 840 for the C3H7OH concentration in the original feed of 95% at 90℃ and below 3300 Pa(abs). Reaction distillation produced the n-bromopropane from the distillation column as a ternary azeotropic liquid mixture of C3H7OH, H2O and C3H7Br, with a product concentration of about 92%. The coupled PV-RD membrane reactor experiment shows that the BrPr yield can reach 92%, much higher than that for reaction-distillation without pervaporation....
To study the transport process of isopropanol aqueous solution by pervaporation, the transport model of isopropanol and that of water at 323 K in polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) membrane were obtained in this paper. Theoretical predictions agreed well with the experimental results. The interactional parameter between water and PVA membrane is less than that between isopropanol and PVA membrane, which shows that water is preferentially dissolved in PVA membrane. The plasticizing coefficient and diffusion coefficient at infinite dilution of water are larger than those of isopropanol, which shows that the dissolution and permeation in PVA membrane of water are greater than those of isopropanol. Both the interactional parameter between water and isopropanol in the membrane and that in feed rise with the increase of isopropanol content in feed, which shows that the larger isopropanol content is, the higher selectivity of the membrane is and the more remarkable separation effect of pervaporation is....
STUDIES ON THE SELF-DIFFUSION OF WATER ETHANOL MIXTURE IN CHITOSAN PERVAPORATION MEMBRANE WITH PULSE
The self-diffusion of water, ethanol and water-ethanol mixtures in chitosan (CS) membranes crosslinked byaqueous H2SO4 solution and uncrosslinked membrane was measured using pulsed-field gradient (PFG) nuclear magneticresonance (NMR) spectroscopy to obtain the partial solubilities and self-diffusion coefficients. An attempt was made toexplain the transport properties of water and ethanol through the CS membrane. It was concluded that there are two types ofchannel water and ethanol diffusate transfer. The water was localized in the hydrophilic ionic region formed by the ionizedgroups, and the ethanol was localized in the hydrophobic amorphous network of the polymer. There was a good agreementbetween the separation factors estimated from PFG-NMR data and those obtained by pervaporation testing....
