It is natural for language learner to make errors in the process of second language acquisition. But different linguists hold different views on the nature of errors and the methods of dealing with learner' s erroR.Three main Western theories on errors are Contrastive Analysis,Error Analysis and the Interlanguage Theory. This paper first examines three most influential error theories, and then probes into theit enlightenment on second language teaching....
A 3D synchronism deployable antenna was designed, analyzed, and manufactured by our research group. This antenna consists oftetrahedral elements from central element. Because there are springs at the ends of some of the rods, spider joints are applied. For analysis purpose, the structure is simplified and modelled by using 2D beam elements that have no bending stiffness. Displacement vectors are defined to include two translational displacements and one torsional displacement. The stiffness matrix derived by this method is relatively simple and well defined. The analysis results generated by using software developed by our research group agreed very well with available test data....
There have been many researches on advertising language;however, few of them are conducted in the framework of discourse analysis and take insights from sociolinguistics. In this paper I will analyze commercial advertising language, consumer ads in particular, beyond the traditional way of description, but go a step further-to interpret advertising and focus more attention on the reflective and constitutive functions of commercial advertising language....
In this paper, a model of overtopping risk under the joint effects of floods and wind waves, which is based on risk analysis theory and takes into account the uncertainties of floods, wind waves, reservoir capacity and discharge capacity of the spillway, is proposed and applied to the Chengbihe Reservoir in Baise City in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The simulated results indicate that the flood control limiting level can be raised by 0.40 m under the condition that the reservoir overtopping risk is controlled within a mean variance of 5×10-6. As a result, the reservoir storage will increase to 16 million m3 and electrical energy generation and other functions of the reservoir will also increase greatly....
Structured modeling is the most commonly used modeling method, but it is not quite addaptive to significant changes in environmental conditions. Therefore, Decision Variables Analysis(DVA), a new modelling method is proposed to deal with linear programming modeling and changing environments. In variant linear programming , the most complicated relationships are those among decision variables. DVA classifies the decision variables into different levels using different index sets, and divides a model into different elements so that any change can only have its effect on part of the whole model. DVA takes into consideration the complicated relationships among decision variables at different levels, and can therefore sucessfully solve any modeling problem in dramatically changing environments....
X-Code is one of the most important redundant array of independent disk (RAID)-6 codes which are capable of tolerating double disk failures. However, the code length of X-Code is restricted to be a prime number, and such code length restriction of X-Code limits its usage in the real storage systems. Moreover, as a vertical RAID-6 code, X-Code can not be extended easily to an arbitrary code length like horizontal RAID-6 codes. In this paper, a novel and efficient code shortening algorithm for X-Code is proposed to extend X-Code to an arbitrary length. It can be further proved that the code shortening algorithm maintains the maximum-distance-separable (MDS) property of X-Code, and namely, the shortened X-Code is still MDS code with the optimal space efficiency. In the context of the shortening algorithm for X-Code, an in-depth performance analysis on X-Code at consecutive code lengths is conducted, and the impacts of the code shortening algorithm on the performance of X-Code in various performance metrics are revealed....
This paper focuses on how to extract physically meaningful information from climate data, with em-phases placed on adaptive and local analysis. It is argued that many traditional statistical analysis methods with rigorous mathematical footing may not be efficient in extracting essential physical information from climate da-ta;rather,adaptive and local analysis methods that agree well with fundamental physical principles are more ca-pable of capturing key information of climate data. To illustrate the improved power of adaptive and local analy-sis of climate data,we also introduce briefly the empirical mode decomposition and its later developments....
In recent papers by Brackx, Delanghe and Sommen, some fundamental higher dimensional distributions have been reconsidered in the framework of Clifford analysis, eventually leading to the introduction of four broad classes of new distributions in Euclidean space. In the current paper we continue the in-depth study of these distributions, more specifically the study of their behaviour in frequency space, thus extending classical results of harmonic analysis....
Hierarchical Bayesian method for estimating the failure probability under DOOF by taking the quasi-Beta distribution as the prior distribution is proposed in this paper. The weighted Least Squares Estimate method was used to obtain the formula for computing reliability distribution parameters and estimating the reliability characteristic values under DOOF. Taking one type of aerospace electrical connector as an example, the correctness of the above method through statistical analysis of electrical connector accelerated life test data was verified....

A transient thermal model was developed for slab furnaces in Eregli Iron and Steel Worlds (Erdemir) in Turkey and the model was solved using the FlexPDE computer program. This program uses the finite element method. Program codes were written to solve the temperature distribution of slabs that are put into furnace at 25℃ and removed at about 1 250℃. To obtain the optimum slab exit temperature variation, the necessary air temperature inside the furnace was calculated to be 1 390℃. The slab temperature versus time and the temperature variation inside the slab were depicted....
In a Digital Particle Image Velocimetry (DPIV) system, the correlation of digital images is normally used to acquire the displacement information of particles and give estimates of the flow field. The accuracy and robustness of the correlation algorithm directly affect the validity of the analysis result. In this article, an improved algorithm for the correlation analysis was proposed which could be used to optimize the selection/determination of the correlation window, analysis area and search path. This algorithm not only reduces largely the amount of calculation, but also improves effectively the accuracy and reliability of the correlation analysis. The algorithm was demonstrated to be accurate and efficient in the measurement of the velocity field in a flocculation pool....
Abstract. The heart rate variability could be explained by a low-dimensional governing mechanism. There has been increasing interest in verifying and understanding the coupling between the respiration and the heart rate. In this paper we use the nonlinear detection method to detect the nonlinear deterministic component in the physiological time series by a single variable series and two variables series respectively, and use the conditional information entropy to analyze the correlation between the heart rate, the respiration and the blood oxygen concentration. The conclusions are that there is the nonlinear deterministic component in the heart rate data and respiration data, and the heart rate and the respiration are two variables originating from the same underlying dynamics....
Basing itself on the cognitive theory of metaphor proposed by Lakoff and Johnson, this paper elaborates the important views that make this theory of metaphor unique, namely, the definition of metaphor as a mapping across conceptual domains, the distinction drawn between conceptual metaphors(or metaphorical concepts)and linguistic metaphors(or metaphorical expressions),the classification and features of conceptual metaphor and the experiential basis of conceptual metaphor as distinguished from both subjectivism and objectivism....
A cognitive interpretation of the basic translation strategy, domestication and foreignization,is elaborated in this paper. It is proposed that based on differences in linguistic presentation and cultural connotation, the application of translation strategy is determined by the style of the source text (ST) and the translator’s performance, both of which are generated from individualized style of construe, decided by a range of experiences. So great importance should be attached to experience and construe.Such an interpretation is proposed to provide a new perspective to study translation strategy and initiate a better comprehension of the ST and translation....

The greatest benefit is realized from failure mode, effect and criticality analysis (FMECA) when it is done early in the design phase and tracks product changes as they evolve; design changes can then be made more economically than if the problems are discovered after the design has been completed. However, when the discovered design flaws must be prioritized for corrective actions, precise information on their probability of occurrence, the effect of the failure, and their detectability often are not availabe. To solve this problem, this paper described a new method, based on fuzzy sets, for prioritizing failures for corrective actions in a FMCEA. Its successful application to the container crane shows that the proposed method is both reasonable and practical....
The rapid developments of technologies that generate arrays of gene data enable a global view of the transcription levels of hundreds of thousands of genes simultaneously. The outlier detection problem for gene data has its importance but together with the difficulty of high dimensionality. The sparsity of data in high dimensional space makes each point a relatively good outlier in the view of traditional distance-based definitions. Thus, finding outliers in high dimensional data is more complex. In this paper, sme basic outlier analysis algorithms are discussed and a new genetic algorithm is presented. This algorithm is to find best dimension projections based on a revised cell-based algorithm and to give explanations to solutions. It can solve the outlier detection problem for gene expression data and for other high dimensional data as well....
Power connector, as one kind of fittings, is used to connect power equipment to conductor, conductor to wire or wire to wire in power lines. Owing to its simple structure, easy installation and low cost, bolt-type power connector-parallel groove clamp is widely used in overhead power transmission and distribution line. However, owing to high current load and harsh environment in China, there are still some problems in application of this kind of connector. So, some failure connectors replaced from clomestic overhead power lines are collected. The main reasons the failure are given out through investigation into residual contact force, connection resistance, substrate quality, makeup, condition of contact interface and installation, manufacture technique etc. Then, the current test on parallel groove clamps is carried out and finite element method is used to simulate its failure process....
Jonathan Swift is the supreme master of prose and one of the greatest satirists in English literature. This paper tries to analyze his famous satiric works,"A Modest Proposal" in a stylistic way.By using stylistic analysis, the author aims to help readers appreciate this essay much easier and get the conclusion that Swift censures the landlords and the English government should be responsible for all the misery of the Irish people and shows great sympathy for poor Irish people in this satire works....
Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Ratio Analysis (RA) are two widely used methods for measuring units' productivity and any other criteria that could be assessed based on the available input and output variables. A number of researchers have studied DEA and RA and noted the positive and negative differences between them. Aggregated ratio analysis (ARA) model, which provide an important linkage between DEA and RA theory, is equivalent to the CCR DEA model, and this equivalence property offers a great deal of opportunities for DEA to be interpreted and applied in different ways. This paper extends the results of ARA model and proposes an extended aggregated ratio analysis (EARA) model, similar as the development from CCR model to BCC model in DEA context. The proposed model can offer an insight into the characteristic of returns to scale, playing the corresponding role as BCC model does. The numerical example is revisited in the paper and the results are compared....
