2016年，欧盟天然气需求增长7%，其中英国和德国占增长的最大份额：这两个国家占欧盟天然气消费年增长的58%。根据初步数据，增长在2017年第一季度继续，当时欧盟需求同比增长5%。2016-2017年冬季寒冷，发电用气快速增长，支撑了天然气消费的增长。
EU gas demand increased by 7% in 2016, with the UK and Germany taking the lion's share of the growth: these two countries were responsible for 58% of the annual increase in EU gas consumption. According to preliminary data, the growth continued in the first quarter of 2017 when EU demand grew by 5% year-onyear. A cold 2016-2017 winter and rapidly growing gas use in power generation supported the growth of gas consumption.
