Typically, these plants consist of a steam methanereformer(MR)to comert the hydrocarbon feed to a syngasmixture followed by a high temperature shift converter( HTSCand low temperature shift converter(LTSC) to shift most of theCO to hydrogen. This hydrogen rich gas is purified by a coremoval unit where a hot potassium carbonate or MEA solu-tion removes the CO. and then a methanator converts theemaining CO and CO, to methane and water. The final product gas is normally 95-97%e hydrogen. Figure 2 shows a typ-ical ayout for an old style hydrogen plant.
