  • Process for Separation of Petroleum Acids from Crude Oil

    A new technique for separation of petroleum acids from crude oil was proposed. The method relates to processes for treating acidic oils or fractions thereof to reduce or eliminate their acidity by addition of effective amounts of crosslinked polymeric amines such as polypropylene amine and anionic exchange resins having amino-groups. Petroleum acids contained in the mixture can be extracted by a complex solvent. The results indicate that more than 80 % of the petroleum acids are removed and the process does not cause environmental pollution because all the solvents are recovered and reused in the test....

  • Floating Production Platforms and their Applications in the Development of Oil and Gas Fields in the

    This paper studies the current available options for floating production platforms in developing deepwater oil fields and the potential development models of future oil and gas exploration in the South China Sea. A detailed review of current deepwater platforms worldwide was performed through the examples of industry projects, and the pros and cons of each platform are discussed. Four types of platforms are currently used for the deepwater development: tension leg platform, Spar, semi-submersible platform, and the floating production system offloading. Among these, the TLP and Spar can be used for dry tree applications, and have gained popularity in recent years. The dry tree application enables the extension of the drilling application for fixed platforms into floating systems, and greatly reduces the cost and complexity of the subsea operation. Newly built wet tree semi-submersible production platforms for ultra deepwater are also getting their application, mainly due to the much needed payload for deepwater making the conversion of the old drilling semi-submersible platforms impossible. These platforms have been used in different fields around the world for different environments;each has its own advantages and disadvantages. There are many challenges with the successful use of these floating platforms. A lot of lessons have been learned and extensive experience accumulated through the many project applications. Key technologies are being reviewed for the successful use of floating platforms for field development, and potential future development needs are being discussed. Some of the technologies and experience of platform applications can be well used for the development of the South China Sea oil and gas field....

  • New evidence for the origin of natural gas in Ordos Basin from hydrocarbons of oil water

    The chief aim of the present work is to investigate the controversy origin of natural gas in the Ordos Basin by using the hydrocarbons of oil water. New evidence has been found: There is relatively high content of light hydrocarbons and low content of heavy components in the hydrocarbons fraction of oil water in the middle gas field of the Majiagou Formation, Ordovician reservoir. The hydrocarbons of oil water in Well Shan 12 and Well Shan 78 have relatively high abundance of tricyclic terpane. Tricyclic terpane/hopane of the two samples are 1.48 and 0.36, respectively. They also show that pregnane and hompregnane are in relatively high abundance with lower hopane/sterane ratio. Pr/Ph is less than 2.0. These characteristics reflected the source input of marine carbonate sedimentary environment. In contrast, the hydrocarbon of Well Shan 81 is lack of tricyclic terpane series and pregnane. It has a high hopane/sterane ratio and Pr/Ph is 3.27. These parameters are typical character of terrestrial organic matter. Furthermore, the hydrocarbons of oil water in Well Shan 37 and Well Shan 34 is between the two typical situations. They have little content of tricyclic terpanes. They may be derived from a mixing source of marine carbonate and terrestrial organic matter input. Similarly, the maturity parameters approve this suggestion. The samples of Well Shan 12 and Well Shan 78 which derived from marine carbonate have relatively high maturity and samples derived from terrestrial organic matter have lower maturity. The maturity of the hydrocarbons of mixing source is between these two situations. The suggestion coincides with the geological background and source rocks distribution....

  • Effect of HCO3- concentration on CO2 corrosion in oil and gas fields

    The effect of HCO3- concentration on CO2 corrosion was investigated by polarization measurement of potentiodynamic scans and weight-loss method. Under the conditions of high pressure and high temperature, the corrosion rate of steel X65 decreased with the increase of HCO3- concentration, while pH of solution increased. SEM, EDS, and XRD results of the corrosion scales indicated that the typical FeCO3 crystallite was found at low HCO3- concentration but Ca(Fe,Mg)(CO3)2 was found at high HCO3 concentration. Ca2+ and Mg2+ are precipitated preferential to Fe2+ at high pH value. Potentiodynamic polarization curves showed that the cathodic current density decreases with the increase of HCO3- concentration at low HCO3- concentration. When the HCO3- concentration reaches 0.126 mol/L, increasing HCO3 concentration promotes cathodic reactions. Anodic behavior is an active process at low HCO3- concentration and the anodic current density decreases with the increase of HCO3- concentration. An evident active-passive behavior is exhibited in anodic process at 0.126 mol/L HCO3-....

  • Geochemistry and genesis on saturated hydrocarbon of crude oils in Gas Hure Oilfield in Qaidam Basin

    Gas Hure Oilfield is the biggest one in the Qaidam Basin.Through intensive sampling and GC-MS analysis, the authors analyzed the geochemical characteristics of the crude oils in the Gas Hure Oilfield.The results show that the crude oils have even-odd carbon predominance for n-alkanes.In shallow reservoir, part of crude oils suffered biogenic degradation.As for normal oils, they have low Pr/Ph ratios with abundant gammacerane and C35 homohopane, which indicate that the crude oils are formed in strong reducing salt water environment.Compared deep ( E13 ) reservoir with shallow ( N1 - N12 ) reservoir, the ancient salinity of sedimentary environment of N1-N12 crude oils is slightly higher than that of E13 crude oils; the C-21/C+22 ratios of crude oils are 1.02-1.71 with a higher abundance of C27sterane, which shows that their mainly origin matrix are bacteria and algae; the C29 sterane 20S/(20S + 20R)is generally low, the ratio in deep E13 reservoir distributes between 0.31and 0.40, but in shallow reservoir is relatively low with O.29-0.36.At the same time, C29sterane αββ/( αββ + ααα) and Ts/Tm both are extremely lower.All the above show that the crude oils in Gas Hure are mainly low mature oils, although the maturity of deep reservoir crude oils is slightly higher than shallow one....

  • Tectonic evolution of the Changling fault basin and its relationship to oil and gas accumulation

    The Changling fault depression passed through three stages of evolution:a period of faulting,a period of subsidence,and an inversion period.The fault lifted the whole area and the formation was eroded during the late Yingcheng formation,the late Nenjiang formation,and the late Mingshui formation.The denudation quantity of eight wells located in the study area is estimated by the interval transit time method and by the formation trend extension method using seismic and drilling data.Inversion back stripping technology with de-compaction correction was used to restore the original sedimentary thickness step by step and to recover the burial history at a single well.Two profiles were selected for the recovery and study of the tectonic evolution.The study confirmed that the primary major gas bearing structure formed due to thermal shrinkage lifting during the late Yingcheng formation.Successive development in a pattern during the late Mingshui formation led to the formation of the primary gas pool.Vertical differential uplift during the late Nenjiang formation formed the Fulongquan structure during the late Paleogene.At this same time a secondary gas pool formed.A large scale reverse developed late in the Mingshui formation that provided the impetus for formation of a secondary gas pool.It is thought that the migration and accumulation of oil and gas was controlled by lithologic character,fracture,and structure.The local uplift in the vicinity of the hydrocarbon recession is most conducive to the collection of hydrocarbon gas....

  • Geological constraints of giant and medium-sized gas fields in Kuqa Depression

    There is a gas-rich and well-charged petroleum system in the Kuqa Depression where Triassic and Jurassic source rocks play important roles. Distributed in an area of more than 10000 km2 and with a thickness of up to 1000 m, they are composed of dark mudstones, carbonaceous mudstones and coal seams containing 6%, 40% and 90% of TOC, respectively, and are mainly the humic organic matter. As high-quality regional cap rocks, the Neogene and Eogene gypsum rocks and gypseous mudstones matched well with the underlying Neogene and Cretaceous-Eogene sandstones. They have formed the most favorable reservoir-seal assemblages in the Kuqa Depression. Also the Jurassic sandstones and mudstones formed another favorable reservoir-seal assemblage. The traps are shaped late in the fold-thrust belt, mainly fixed in the Tertiary-Quaternary, where ten structure styles have been distinguished. These traps spread as a zone in N-S, are scattered like a segmental line in W-E and show tier-styled vertically. The best traps are gypsum-salt covered fault-bend anticlines related to the passive roof duplex. This petroleum system is characterized by late accumulation. In the early Himalayan Movement, mainly gas condensate and oil accumulated and were distributed in the outer circular region of the kitchen; whereas in the middle and late Himalayan the gas accumulations mainly formed and were distributed in the inner circular region near the kitchen. The overpressure of gas pools is common and is formed by seal capacity of thick gypsum layers, extensive tectonic compression and large uplift. The well-preserved anticline traps underlying the high-quality regional cap rocks of the Tertiary gypsum rocks and gypseous mudstones are the main targets for the discovery of giant and medium-sized gas fields. Above conclusions are important for the petroleum geology theory and the exploration of the fold-thrust belt in foreland basins in central and western China....

  • Low gas-liquid ratio foam flooding for conventional heavy oil

    The recovery of heavy oil by water flooding is 10% lower than that of conventional crude oil,so enhanced oil recovery (EOR) is of great significance for heavy oil.In this paper,foam flooding with a gas-liquid ratio (GLR) of 0.2:1 for the Zhuangxi heavy oil (325 mPa.s at 55 ℃) was performed on cores,sand packs and plate model.In sand pack tests,polymer enhanced foam flooding increased oil recovery by 39.8%,which was 11.4% higher than that for alkali/surfactant/polymer (ASP) flooding under the same conditions.Polymer enhanced foam flooding in plate models shows that the low GLR foam flooding increased oil recovery by about 30%,even when the extended water flooding was finished at 90% water cut.Moreover,it was discovered by microscopy that foam was more stable in heavy oil than in light oil.These results confirm that low GLR foam flooding is a promising technology for displacing conventional heavy oil....

  • Application of deviation rate in oil and gas reservoir exploration

    Three dimensional geophysical models were abstracted and established according to characteristics of oil and gas reservoir. Then direct current fields for different models were simulated with finite element software (finite element program generator) by hole-to-surface resistivity method. Numerical solution was compared with analytical one for the homogeneity earth model. And a new parameter of deviation rate was proposed by analyzing different plot curves. The results show that the relative error of solution for homogeneity earth model may attain to 0.043%. And deviation rate decreases from 18% to 1% and its anomaly range becomes wide gradually when the depth of oil and gas reservoir increases from 200 to 1 500 m. If resistivity ratio of oil and gas reservoir to sur- rounding rock decreases from 100 to 10 for the resistive oil and gas reservoir, the amplitude attenuation of deviation rate nearly reaches 8%. When there exists stratum above oil and gas reservoir, and influence of resistive stratum may be eliminated or weakened and anomaly of oil and gas reservoir can be strengthened....

  • 松木屑催化热解及热解油分析

    以松木屑为原料,选取无水Na2CO3、无水Al2O3、凹凸棒土、ZSM-5共4类催化剂,利用管式炉实验及色质联用(GC-MS)分析仪进行热解特性研究,探索了热解产物产率和组分特性的变化规律.实验结果表明,松木屑在热解温度为550,℃时,产油率达到最大值51.47%(质量分数);无催化剂条件下松木屑热解油主要成分为酸类化合物,加催化剂条件下松木屑热解油主要成分为酸类和酮类化合物,催化剂的加入主要影响了呋喃类、醇类、糖类和含氮类化合物的质量分数.ZSM-5催化剂的催化性能最佳,其能够提高热解油产率,其对应的热解油中酯类、呋喃类和芳香族类等能够提高热解油品质的化合物质量分数均较高,而糖类、含氮类等化合物质量分数较低,能够提高热解油的稳定性....

  • Effects of acid treatments on Moroccan Tarfaya oil shale and pyrolysis of oil shale and their keroge

    In this study, the kerogen of oil shale from Moroccan Tarfaya deposits was isolated and the changes in the initial organic matter during the removal of the mineral matrix were examined. Chloroform extraction of the oil shale increases the intensity of the peaks in the X-ray diffractograms. Infrared spectra and X-ray diffractograms reveal the presence of mineral, calcite, quartz, kaolinite, and pyrite in the mineral matrix of the oil shale. Hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids dissolution do not alter the organic matter. The nonisothermal weight loss measurements indicate that thermal decomposition of the isolated kerogen can be described by first-order reaction. A single kinetic expression is valid over the temperature range of kerogen pyrolysis between 433K and 873K. Furthermore, the results indicate that the removal of mineral matter causes a decrease in the activation energies of the pyrolysis reactions of oil shale....

  • Pyrolysis of Huadian oil shale by electrical heating on different heating rates

    The electrical heating experiments on oil shale sample from Huadian of Jilin were carried out by the pyrolysis method at three different heating rate 2 ℃/min,5 ℃/min and 10 ℃/min in the temperature range of 30 ℃ -750 ℃.Heating rate 2 ℃/min is considered low,while intermediate one covers the range 5 ℃/min and high heating rate is 10 ℃/min.The controlling parameters studied were the final pyrolysis temperature and the influence of the healing rate as well as type.The heating rate has an important effect on the pyrolysis of oil shale and the amount of residual carbon obtained therefore.It is found that increasing the heating rate and pyrolysis temperature also increases the production of oil and the total weight loss.Higher heating rates resulted in higher rates of accumulation.The rate of oil and water collection passed through the maximum of different heating rates at different pyrolysis temperatures.Heating rate affected density,oil conversion and oil yield....
