Analysis of the Structure of Shakespeare’s Sonnets
The sonnet is a kind of lyrics with restrict forms which cannot depart from the contents. Shakespeare's sonnets are like a valuable flower blossoming in the England poetry garden during the age of Renaissance and a bright pearl sparkling in the world's poetry treasury. This paper will analyze his sonnets from the perspective of the structure and then interpret the meanings behind those words, which can demonstrate the importance of the connection between the forms and the contents....

Regression Analysis of the Number of Association Rules
The typical model, which involves the measures: support, confidence, and interest,is often adapted to mining association rules. In the model, the related parameters are usually chosen by experience; consequently, the number of useful rules is hard to estimate. If the number is too large,we cannot effectively extract the meaningful rules. This paper analyzes the meanings of the parameters and designs a variety of equations between the number of rules and the paramctcrs by using regression method. Finally,we experimentally obtain a preferable regression equation. This paper uses multiple correlation coefficients to test the fitting effects of the equations and uses significance test to verify whether the coefficients of parameters are significantly zero or not.The regression equation that has a larger multiple correlation coefficient will be chosen as the optimally fitted equation. With the selected optimal equation,we can predict the number of rules under the given parameters and further optimize the choice of the three parameters and determine their ranges of values....

Application of FEM Analysis to Braced Excavation
It is becoming possible to do detailed numerical analyses for the various mechanical behavior of braced excavation by researching and developing the numerical analysis technique such as the finite ele-ment method (FEM).However, the mechanical behavior of braced excavation has not been clanfied fully both in theory and in expedence. Therefore, improving the prediction accuracy during the prior design is very important for making the observational method of braced excavation more effective. In this paper,FEM analyses were performed for a model of braced excavation by using Geotechnical Finite Element Elasto-plastic Analysis Software,GeoFEAS (2D).As the constitutive law of ground,MC-DP model, and Dun-can-Chang model were applied. The results were compared and discussed with that of a site measurement, and the effects of the constitutive law of ground on the analyzed result were verified. For the difference be-tween the results, the reason was investigated by the analyses adjusting the elastic modulus of ground, and the appropriate application of the constitutive law was researched....

Elastoplastic analysis of knee bracing frame
The knee bracing steel frame (KBF) is a new kind of energy dissipating frame, which combines excellent ductility and lateral stiffness. As the structural fuse of the frame, the knee element will yield first during a severe earthquake so that no damage occurs to the major structural members and the rehabilitation is easy and economical. To help fully understand the relations between its seismic performance and the structural parameters, systematic elastoplastic analysis of the KBF structure with finite element method was conducted in this work. Finally, general design recommendations were made according to the results of the analysis....

Global Analysis of a Flexible Riser
The mechanical performance of a flexible riser is more outstanding than other risers in violent environmental conditions.Based on the lumped mass method,a steep wave flexible riser configuration attached to a Floating Production Storage and Offloading(FPSO)has been applied to a global analysis in order to acquire the static and dynamic behavior of the flexible riser. The riser was divided into a series of straight massless line segments with a node at each end.Only the axial and torsional properties of the line were modeled, while the mass, weight, and buoyancy were all lumped to the nodes.Four different buoyancy module lengths have been made to demonstrate the importance of mode selection,so as to confirm the optimum buoyancy module length. The results in the sensitivity study show that the flexible riser is not very sensitive to the ocean current, and the buoyancy module can reduce the Von Mises stress and improve the mechanical performance of the flexible riser.Shorter buoyancy module length can reduce the riser effective tension in a specific range of the buoyancy module length when other parameters are constant, but it can also increase the maximum curvature of the riser. As a result, all kinds of the riser performances should be taken into account in order to select the most appropriate buoyancy module length....

Biological networks to the analysis of microarray data
Microarray technology, which permits rapid and large-scale screening for patterns of gene expressions, usually generates a large amount of data. How to mine the biological meanings under these data is one of the main challenges in bioinformatics. Compared to the pure mathematical techniques, those methods incorporated with some prior biological knowledge generally bring better interpretations.Recently, a new analysis, in which the knowledge of biological networks such as metabolic network and protein interaction network is introduced, is widely applied to microarray data analysis. The microarray data analysis based on biological networks contains two main research aspects: identification of active components in biological networks and assessment of gene sets significance. In this paper, we briefly review the progress of these two categories of analyses, especially some representative methods....

Study on the application of spectral fatigue analysis
Fatigue failure has long been an important issue for ships and offshore structures. Among the numerous methods for predicting fatigue life, the spectral method is accepted as the most reliable. Although the theory behind spectral analysis is straight-forward, the analysis itself is complicated and time-consuming because it is closely related to critical technical details such as the application of fatigue loading (wave pressures and the inertial forces due to cargoes), the extraction of the stress, and the calculation of stress RAO. Here, four key technical details-loading application, displacement boundary condition, the calculation of stress RAO, and the extraction of the fatigue stress-are discussed thoroughly. For each aspect, a resolution is presented based on the finite element pre-and post-processing software MSC/PATRAN or FE solver MSC/NASTRAN. The resolutions are effective and efficient, which can help engineers perform spectral fatigue analysis accurately and faster....

Citation analysis of meta-analysis articles on posttraumatic stress disorder
Background In the past two decades enormously scientific researches on posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) have been undertaken and many related meta-analyses have been published. Citation analysis was used to get comprehensive perspectives of meta-analysis articles (MA articles) on PTSD for the purpose of facilitating the researchers, physicians and policy-makers to understand the PTSD.Methods MA articles on PTSD in any languages from January 1980 to March 2009 were included if they presented meta-analytical methods and received at least one citation recorded in the Web of Science (WoS). Whereas studies,in which any effect sizes of PTSD were not distinguished from other psychological disorders, were excluded. Citations to and by identified MA articles were documented basing on records in WoS. Citation analysis was used to examine distribution patterns of characteristics and citation impact of MA articles on PTSD. Canonical analysis was used to explore the relationship between the characteristics of MA articles and citation impact. Results Thirty-four MA articles published during 1998 and 2008 were identified and revealed multiple study topics on PTSD:10 (29.4%) were about epidemiology,13 (38.2%) about treatment or intervention,6 (17.6%) about pathophysiology or neurophysiology or neuroendocrine,3 (8.8%) about childhood and 2 (5.9%) about psychosocial adversity. Two articles cited most frequently with 456 and 145 counts were published in Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology by Brewin (2000) and Psychological Bulletin by Ozer (2003),respectively. Mean cited count was 7.48±10.56and mean age (year 2009 minus article publication year) was (4.24±2.91) years. They had been cited approximately by 67 disciplines and by authors from 42 countries or territories. Characteristics of meta-analysis highly correlated with citation impact and reflected by canonical correlation of 0.899 (P <0.000 01).Conclusions The age of MA articles predicted their citation impact. Citation analysis would serve to capture the global perspectives and topics of MA articles on PTSD....

Single-Trial Estimation and Analysis of PVEP Based on Independent ComPonent Analysis
A novel method based on the extended infomax approach of independent component analysis (ICA) is proposed for the single-trial estimation of multi-channel pattern-reversal visual evoked potential (PVEP). The clinical applications illustrate the encouraging performance of the method. The number of trials needed is reduced to 3, but the estimated VEP complex is clearer than that obtained by conventional ensemble averaging with 50 trials. By analyzing the time course and spatial pattern of the independent components (ICs) of the multi-channel PVEP, one component is found to be reasonably related to the P100 peak....
